One of the most important figures in the British romantic reggae creation, Lovers Rock, Carroll Thompson sold over a million copies of her 1981 debut album Hopelessly In Love. A classically trained pianist and choir member as a child, Thompson’s smooth precise vocals have been in demand, both as a solo singer and as a duet partner with the likes of Sugar Minott and Aswad (on a British chart hit cover of Diana Ross’ I’m Still Waiting). In 2018 Thompson released a tribute album to one of her biggest influences, the Jamaican singer Phyllis Dillon. She remains one of the biggest stars of UK reggae and lovers rock.
