Sly Dunbar & The Revolutionaries

SLY DUNBAR & THE REVOLUTIONARIES – only date in Europe

Last year the reggae world lost one of music’s greatest bass players, and one half of production team Sly & Robbie, Robbie Shakespeare. This year the harmony trio Mighty Diamonds tragically lost two of its members – Tabby and Bunny. For its 2022 edition, Rototom Sunsplash presents a one-off tribute show, featuring Robbie’s partner, Sly Dunbar, backed by members of legendary studio group The Revolutionaries.

By the mid-70s, the Revolutionaries were the hottest session band in Kingston Jamaica. They played on classic Mighty Diamonds recordings at Channel One studio and were the launching pad for Sly & Robbie’s own productions on their Taxi label.

For this single date in Europe, Sly will sit on the drum stool, surrounded by his fellow celebrated musicians of the Channel One and Taxi era. The band comprises Sly on drums, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith on lead guitar, Rad ‘Dougie’ Bryan on rhythm guitar, Lloyd Parks on bass, Franklyn ‘Bubbler’ Waul and Lenky Marsden on keys, Dean Fraser on saxophone, Everol ‘Sting’ Wray on trumpet, alongside the Taxi Gang’s Peter Gayle on vocals.

In memory of Robbie Shakespeare, Bunny and Tabby, Sly & The Revolutionaries will play music spanning the Channel One and Taxi catalogues, including hits by The Mighty Diamonds, Gregory Isaacs and Dennis Brown. This is a show that will go down in musical history forever.
