Rototom Sunsplash opens up to Afrobeats as it explores with Davido and Voodoo Club new sound universes for its eclectic roar.
The artist Davido will lead from the Main Stage the journey 'from Nigeria to the world' in this 27th edition of the festival, which takes place from 16 to 22 August 2022 in Benicàssim. Jamkunda is born, the reformulated African Village, which every night will be transformed into a dance club with the Voodoo collective, a symbol of contemporary African culture.

Benicàssim / Tuesday, 21 June 2022 – The international reggae festival Rototom Sunsplash in Benicàssim continues to explore new sound universes to enhance its already eclectic roar. The 27th edition, to be held at the concert venue in Benicàssim (Castellón) from 16 to 22 August 2022, will feature a full-fledged musical immersion in Afrobeats. A genre that, more than just a musical style, encompasses and projects to the world “a whole cultural movement in full swing that has millions of followers on the five continents”, according to the festival organisers.

To the already confirmed Davido, international figure of the genre (and included in 2021 by Time magazine in the list of the 100 African personalities who are shaping the future) as a guide on this journey ‘from Nigeria to the world’, joins another of this year’s new features. That emerges in Jamkunda, the name given to the reformulated African Village, which will be transformed into a dance club every night. It will do so by the hand of the Voodoo collective, the driving force behind Afrobeats, and by extension African music and the continent’s avant-garde culture, from its base of operations – in club format – in Barcelona.

Ataya will kick off the Jamkunda programme, creating a space for constructive reflection around the tea ceremony. This will be followed by dance, an occasion to enjoy and let yourself be carried away by the rhythm. Different artistic proposals will move towards the evening, where the aforementioned Voodoo collective will take to the stage to close and complete this 360-degree cultural experience.

Voodoo Club‘s line-up is in keeping with the eclectic style of the venue itself and promises intense evenings of not only Afrobeats, but also Afrohouse, dancehall, funk and disco: Fortalezza (Madrid); Dj Dada; MC Chanti; SlimboyFlacko; Hirma (Suiza); Selectya Glossy; Oseka DJ Set; Naguiyami; Sunkusi Collective (Dj Owey, BuBu Sound, Soribah) y Wekafore DJ Set give shape to Voodoo Club’s presence in Rototom Sunsplash.
