Benicàssim / Wednesday, 15 June 2022 – If there is a space that embodies the social and planetary commitment of the Rototom Sunsplash within the concert venue around which the life, and the night, of the festival revolves, it is its Social Forum. Here, in this corner for debate, interaction and the collective construction of solutions to the great challenges of the contemporary global context, the theme that guides the 2022 edition in Benicàssim will become more than visible from the 16th to the 22nd of August: ‘We must change the world‘.
Through five presentations and the screening of five documentaries, with their corresponding debates, the 2022 Social Forum will talk about pandemics, war and climate emergency, as well as, reunion and re-socialisation, peace and sustainability. “The aim is to seek, by bringing together perspectives and experiences, that ‘plan B’ that will allow us to change the course of the serious problems that threaten the stability of our planet”, the organisation states.
This space will include the voices of the Portuguese sociologist and author Boaventura de Sousa Santos; the Chilean sociologist, architect and politician Daniel Jadue; Baz Dreisinger, founder of the Incarceration Nations Network project; the CSIC researcher Antonio Turiel; the science disseminator Joaquín Araújo; the climate journalist Juan Bordera and the political scientist Juan Carlos Monedero. In addition to the journalists Inna Afinogenova (former correspondent of Russia Today); Irene Zugasti (specialising in international relations) and Olga Rodríguez, co-founder of eldiario.es and expert on conflicts.
They are joined by photojournalists Juan Carlos Tomasi (Médicos sin fronteras) and Pedro Armestre (Greenpeace); Sara Pizzinato, head of the renewable energy campaign of Greenpeace in Spain; and Nazaret Castro (expert in food systems and co-founder of the magazine Revista Amazonas and the Carro de Combate collective) and Mireia Vidal, from the Coordinadora Campesina del País Valenciano, among other participants.
