Jesse Royal’s real name is Jesse David Leroy Grey. He was born 29 April, 1989 in the parish of St. James, on the Jamaican hills of Maroon Town. At the end of the 90’s he moved with his family to Kingston and began a close friendship with his schoolmate Daniel ‘Bambaata’ Marley, son of Ziggy Marley. They grew up like brothers, sharing their love of football and music. During their early adolescence, and with the help of Curt White, they began to compose and create their first songs. Another fortuitous encounter for Jesse was that with Kareem ‘Remus’ Burrell, son of the great producer Philip‘Fatis’ Burrell. Once they begin to collaborate, Jesse’s creativity and talent improves noticeably with compositions that express the frustration of the inhabitants of Jamaican ghettos. After his mixtape debut titled “Mishen”, Jesse continues to use this expressive format, releasing his second mixtape, titled “In comes the small axe”. July 14 Jesse, in collaboration with Walshy Fire from Major Lazer, will release “Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire presents Jesse Royal Royally Speaking”.
