30 June 2017
We begin the month with a feminine musical approach with an African flavour. The second session of Women do Reggae returns this Saturday (21:00) with great anticipation, new artistic proposals and the intention to give voice to international women’s reggae and create synergies among the women who promote it.
Solé Rototom Beach is preparing to welcome Marga Mbande from Barcelona, who will offer a preview of her performance on Sunday 13th August at the festival’s Lion Stage. Of Guinean descent, she is one of the vocalists who stands out in the current scene of singers of the country associated to the blackest sounds. Previous member of Dlux (2003-2013) and with three recorded albums, she leads several groups that have performed in most of the venues in Barcelona, Paris and Oslo.
We will also see the German Martina Giese (Coco Girl), who has participated in different themed nights in London like Hip Joint and Cat Beat, organized by the legendary DJ El Nino, or Tropical Yard in Hoxton, promoted by DJ Lady Kamikaze. Since her arrival in Valencia in 2013, Martina has returned to her old passion for reggae music, turning to Jamaican calypso, rocksteady, reggae and roots, and the sounds of the Jamaican record label Studio 1, present in the musical atmosphere of the Juanita Reggae Club or the 16 Toneladas hall.
The session will be completed by Gina, one of the women who is in the heart and production of the Rototom Sunsplash, who will contribute with a musical selection of the best reggae. In addition, the introduction to this magical night will be in charge of MC Sistakappa, who has also been working in the communication area of the festival, actively promoting reggae music.
The night holds more surprises … Shall we discover them together?
