Multi-purpose hairbands, handbags made with African fabrics, hand-stretched wax fabric shirts and earrings are some of the exclusive items designed for the Rototom Sunsplash by Bissap, which is a project based in Valencia and run by Mor Mbaye, Senegalese tailor alongside Pilar Vidal from Valencia. All these garments are part of the solidarity merchandise launched this year to finance various social projects in Africa, using the money raised from their sales.
In the case of Bissap, the money obtained from the purchase of its products will be used to collaborate with a sewing workshop in Touba (Senegal). The main aim is to help in the acquisition of sewing and embroidery machinery that will help to train more people in this trade and give them the opportunity to sell their articles in the shop that Bissap has in the Valencian capital. However, it also seeks to give visibility to the African tailor‘s trade, which is deeply rooted in Senegalese society.
