Rototom Sunsplash reaches its crowning weekend with performances by two kings of reggae. What better way to commemorate the festival’s 24th edition, titled Celebrating Africa, than one of the motherland’s foundation artists sharing the Main Stage with one of Jamaica’s most promising?
Bringing a 4 decade catalogue of beloved music, Ivorian reggae veteran Alpha Blondy returns to Rototom with his continent as the festival focus. Also on the bill is the contemporary, conscious Jamaican artist who has fired the world’s imagination like no other – Spanish Town’s Chronixx. Be prepared for songs from new album Chronology and anthems of African repatriation such as Capture Land. The international reach of dub will be heard during sets by the UK’s African Headcharge and Spain’s Iseo & Dodosound.
The Lion Stage will feel the dancehall heat with the music of Swedish singjay Million Stylez. Britain’s flamboyant Gaz Mayall brings his Rockin’ Blues to the Caribbean Uptempo area while the mighty King Earthquake shakes the Dub Academy to its foundations.
It’s the penultimate day of Rototom Celebrating Africa edition – and the weekend is just beginning…
