The Social Forum 2017 opens its program with the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Mohamed Ben Cheikh, for the 24th edition of the Rototom Sunplash international reggae festival, dedicated to Africa, which will be held Benicassim, August 12 to 19. With the theme The Africas of Africa, organized in collaboration with United for Africa, this space for debate aims to present the different realities that coexist on the continent, regarding its diversity and liveliness while continuing to delve further into the themes of culture of peace and critical thought with the talks and guests.
Mohamed Ben Cheikh is one of the voices of the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015 “for their decisive contribution to the construction of a plural democracy” in Tunisia after the Jasmine Revolution in 2011.
Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was a civil society initiative created in 2013 to promote the democratic process in the country after the fall of the Ben Ali regime. The quartet is comprised of The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT, Union Générale Tunisienne du Travail), The Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA, Union Tunisienne de l’Industrie, du Commerce et de l’Artisanat) -represented by Mohamed Ben Cheikh-, The Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH, La Ligue Tunisienne pour la Défense des Droits de l’Homme) The Tunisian Order of Lawyers (Ordre National des Avocats de Tunisie).
