The biggest show in the world comes to Rototom Sunsplash. The tour that the Ethiopian circus group Fekat Circus is putting on this year around Europe alongside the percussionist Slum Drummers (Kenya) will stop off at the festival venue. The artists participating in this fusion are known for their abilities, skills, force and technique, will give the audience at the festival a taste of the magic and wealth of African circus in its purest state.
Both companies have joined forces for this special tour that this year comes for the first time to Spain with a special stop in Rototom Sunsplash-thanks to the collaboration of Solidarity Creativity, an entity dedicated to supporting social projects-. It will be a show that will allow us to discover the enormous artistic and creative potential of the African continent.
Fekat Circus has a clear social component. Indeed, the group was founded in 2004 when Dereje Dagne, a youngster who grew up on the streest of Addis Abeda, decided to form a small circus show with other kids on the street. When he saw how this activity changed the lives of the little ones, he decided to share it with other children, especially those who lived in poor areas.
For their part, Slum Drummers is a group of young percussionists that has become known for performing with recycled instruments. Their objective is to share their musical activities as well as social issues with other young people, to motivate them to stay clear of the risks that come with living in the a poor neighbourhood, as well as raising awareness about these kinds of issues.
Fekat Circus & Slum Drummers will be at the festival venue from August 19 to 22 offering different workshops in the African Village. Furthermore, they will perform in the African Village on Thursday August 20 form 22:00.
