Kwame Afrovibes and Afrikemet open the line-up for the African Village’s stage, which will also offer up dance, theatre and circus every day at the festival
At the heart of the Celebrating Africa Rototom and at the centre of the festival, the Stage of the African Village begins to take shape and set the beat. It does so, with the confirmation of the first artists in its line-up: Kwame Afrovibes and Afrikemet, and with the objective of paving the way for the new sounds that will bring the musical wealth of a whole continent to Benicassim.
From Ghana, we have the Barcelona based compositor John Kwame Adzraku, the man behind Kwame Afrovibes. A project that combines musicians from different countries and cultures – form Senegal to Argentina, Spain Poland, Italy, Chicago and Brazil- united by African music. The group turn each show into explosion of energy wrapped with messages of struggle and hope. The African beats of makossa and afrobeat are combined with highlife, soukous, reggae and funk. The result: a whirlwind of melodies, in the native languages of Ghana (Acan, Ga, Ewe), English and in Spanish, that will move you.
Also with an intercontinental flavor –from USA, Cuba, Ghana and Spain- comes Afrikemet. The band formed in Barcelona, is dedicated to the popular styles of soukous, highlife, native blues and ndombolo with a modern touch.
Apart from concerts, the African Village Stage will fill each day with story telling, dance shows, theater and circus form the continent. All topped off in the early hours by the umissable DJ sets of the African disco.
