The international reggae festival Rototom Sunsplash has presented this Thursday, in an event held at Solé Rototom Reggae Beach, the 42,587.28 euros collected in the solidarity initiative promoted in its 30th edition, held in August in Benicàssim, which will help finance four social projects of the NGOs Human Call (Lebanon), A la Par (Madrid), the Valencian AIPHYC, and Conquistando Escalones from Vila-real.
The amount raised comes from the 10 euro contributions made by the 4,264 people with free access passes to the venue (aimed at children under 13, seniors over 65, and people with disabilities) when collecting their pass at the box office in this latest edition. Each attendee decided which project to allocate the aid to.
The symbolic fee of 10 euros linked to this initiative, implemented for the second time in the management of the festival’s inclusive season tickets, will allow the Human Call organization, an entity created by the Palestinian population in the Ein El Hilweh refugee camp (Sidon, Lebanon), where more than 130,000 people live in precarious conditions, to provide human and material resources to the Al Nida’a Hospital, the only health center in the camp, which is managed by the organization. Its executive director, Mustafa Abou Atieh, thanked Rototom Sunsplash’s contribution through a video screened during the event held at Solé.

“From Human Call, we welcome the support of cultural initiatives such as the Rototom Sunsplash festival; a bridge of solidarity that has managed to turn art and culture into a vital resource for vulnerable communities.” He indicated that the contribution will serve to “directly finance our health and community programs, which allows us to continue providing vital services and dignity to Palestinian refugees.”
The NGO Conquistando Escalones, based in Vila-real (Castelló), was launched a decade ago by those affected, family members, and friends of those affected by Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type LGMD-1F. The genetic mutation of these patients immunizes them against HIV, which is why research to achieve a treatment for this disease has also opened a door to hope in the fight against AIDS. Continuing to gather support to promote clinical trials and scientific research against this degenerative and hereditary disease is the objective of the solidarity action promoted by Rototom Sunsplash. An objective ratified by Abrahán Guirao, president of the organization, who collected the festival’s contribution together with Beatriz Salas, general coordinator, and Vicky Salas, social media manager of the entity.
“From Conquistando Escalones, we can only express our most sincere gratitude for this initiative of Rototom Sunsplash. Their support has a direct and significant impact on our mission to promote medical research to find a treatment and cure for LGMDD2 and HIV,” said Abrahán Guirao. He announced that the contribution received today “adds to the special campaign that we launched on the occasion of our 10th anniversary, whose final goal is to raise 100,000 euros to give continuity to medical research and to have a remnant with which to face the cost of the trial in patients of the drugs that already work against LGMDD2 in the laboratory.”

The solidarity action promoted thanks to the contributions of the Rototom Sunsplash public will also contribute to strengthening one of the main initiatives of AIPHYC, a non-profit entity that works from Valencia to empower and dignify the situation of domestic and care professionals, mostly migrant women from southern countries. This is its EDD: School of Dynamizers and Defenders of Rights: “The funding obtained will allow us to consolidate and scale this project, strengthening its methodology and expanding its scope,” Marcela Bahamón and Lola Jacinto, co-founders of AIPHYC, and Johana Ciro, methodological coordinator of the association, explained this Thursday during the event.
“From our entity, we celebrate that a cultural event like Rototom Sunsplash promotes social initiatives with real impact. For us, this experience has been an inspiration and a vote of confidence to continue this work of accompanying demands for citizen rights from the autonomies,” they highlighted.
Those from A La Par (Fundación Carmen Pardo-Valcarce) have expressed themselves along the same lines. “We greatly appreciate that a cultural event of this magnitude is committed to social initiatives. For us, it has been a great window of visibility for our cause, and we have loved being a part of it. This contribution will allow us to continue promoting projects that promote inclusion and equal opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities,” explained Ignacio de la Peña, head of the business development and customer relations department of the foundation, this Thursday in Castelló.
The institution has been dedicated to achieving that full inclusion and equality of people with disabilities for 75 years. The project that Rototom’s support will help finance is ‘Rock a la Par’, which seeks to surprise, inspire, and make visible the talent of people with intellectual disabilities, also in the musical field, through the formation of a pop rock band made up entirely of artists from this group, with David Summers, from Hombres G, and the composer and guitarist Pedro Andrea, accompanying its development.
