The final day of Rototom 2017 saves the best until last – with a special focus on veteran artists Celebrating Africa. For the closing Saturday of the festival’s 24th edition, the Main Stage boasts its biggest concentration of legendary pioneers – each with links to the motherland.
Devout Rasta singer Luciano, who has travelled extensively through the continent, is the night’s headliner, featuring England’s rhythm twins Mafia and Fluxy. The father of microphone talking, and True Born African, the great U Roy, meets Jamaica’s first openly Rasta lyricist Big Youth. They are joined by the UK dub master Mad Professor, who pioneered the Back To Africa festival in Gambia, and Nadine Sutherland, singer of recent Afrocentric dub hit Inna Mi Blood.
And there is also plenty of spotlight on reggae music from Spain and Catalonia. Amparanoia, the musical project of Amparo Sánchez, returns to touring after her solo career hiatus. Over at the Lion Stage, Barcelona singjay Alex Bass is backed by the mighty Same Song band.
It’s your last chance to come and share some unique reggae vibrations – as another historic edition of Rototom Sunsplash reaches its climactic conclusion…
