Music played an important role in the latest edition of the FiSahara Film Festival, 2015, held these days in the Sahrawi refugee camp in Daijla (Algeria). We at Rototom Sunsplash wanted to do our bit and fund the participation of one of the most famous Sahrawi rappers: Yslem, Son of the Desert.
Alongside Profesoul and Dj Sunshine, the artist participated in different activities to promote the Sahrawi cause during the festival. He gave a hip hop composition workshop for young Sahrawis with the aim of developing their creativity to make music a tool of expression and cultural resistance.
During the workshop, the little ones composed a hip hop track inspired by the slogan of the this year’s FiSahara Film Festival, Universal Justice, as well as participating in the recording of a video clip that will be premiered in the next few weeks.
Furthermore, Yslem and his crew were also in charge of giving the concert that closed the festival.
