Under the Freedom & Dignity slogan, the Social Forum has concluded seven days of debates, talks and meetings that have put the focus on different topics. A space in which everyone without distinction, has had his/her own voice.
And so it has been and could not be otherwise. The Social Forum closed its doors on Saturday 20 with the meeting “Who defends human rights?” and the presence of Charo Corbacho (Amnesty International) and Nacho Martín (journalist, activist and head of communication in the Peace Mission Coordination office and UN agencies).
“They are taking many steps back”, Charo Corbacho complaint before an alarm situation in which many people in the world cannot enjoy their rights, which are universal rights. The memories of Aylan Kurdi are back at the Social Forum (also protagonist of the debate “Refugees without refuge”). They call out the institutions again and their total failure to defend these rights. Charo makes a brief tour through the different situations occurring in countries around the world, direct focus to some cases of violation of human rights. Cases that with more than figures, are also names and therefore people like Amira.
The right of freedom of speech, association and assembly, economic, social and cultural rights, force and police impunity or the right to adequate housing are some of the universal rights that are being threatened in Spain , as highlighted by Charo.
Meanwhile, Nacho has been commissioned to share some of these solidarity projects towards the defense of universal rights in which he has participated in places like Mexico, Sahara, Palestine and even Castellón (Stuka), among other projects. Nacho has been clear and has sent a message to the audience, What are you doing for the defense of human rights?
