The use of plastic will be reduced in the festival staff work areas this year.
Ecozona will set up four installations that will provide fresh top quality water reusing the existing drinking water network. This equipment, called ‘Water Houses’, uses a micro active carbon filtration that reduces flavour and smell of chlorine without eliminating the minerals that are beneficial for our bodies.
This service provides low cost quality fresh drinking water and reduces plastic waste as well as CO2 emissions by reducing the costs of disposing of and transporting plastic bottles. Ecozona will have four of these installations at the festival. They will be located in Backstage, Workshop, Security and Camping Reception areas. The dispensers will offer cool fresh water with or without gas.
Furthermore, we have eliminated the use of plastic recipients in the bars of the festival, substituting them with reusable glasses that you can get by leaving a deposit.
In numbers, last year we managed to collect 16,200 kg en plastics and 7,400 kg of paper and cardboard for recycling. To be more precise, with what was recycled we could make 2,739 fleece jackets – 40 bottles give you one fleece-; 630 bicycle tyres -80 cans: one tyre-; 7,792 books – 8 cereal boxes: 1 book- and 8,490 shoe boxes – 6 milk cartons: 1 shoe box-.
We also were able to avoid emitting 16,000 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere, as well as save 18,408 kW of electricity- equivalent to the daily consumption of 3,067 citizens-.
