Those present at the Social Forum this afternoon have discussed, with the help of the lawyer, economist and member of ATTAC France, Frédéric Viale, the negotiations between the European Union and the United States to approve the transatlantic trade and investment partnership (short in English TTIP), the agreement that aims to liberalise trade between the US and Europe.
A treaty that has not yet seen the light but leads to suspicion and criticism in equal measures. While supporters claim that the TTIP is the path to economic growth and job creation, the opponents do not hesitate to guarantee that it will give way to the entry of GMOs into Europe and will leave the rights of the citizens in the hands of multinational corporations. Viale was accompanied by Tom Kucharz, from Ecologistas en Acción, and José Luis de la Jara, from the Diagonal newspaper.
