“Our music is a trip”. A journey through sound with which the Italians Triad Vibration, in collaboration with Rototom Sunsplash, have brought a little bit of freedom to the 200 inmates in the Albocasser prison, in Castellón.
It’s not the first time that this band with over 15 years history and a characteristic fusion of percussion, tribal rhythms, electronic and funk, has brought the festival to those who are serving time. They already did so on three occasions when Rototom Sunsplash was held in Italy, and now they are back.
“It was very emotive, very powerful, a very gratifying experience, because we have been able to bring these people a little freedom and happiness with our music; we gave them the chance fo a few hours at least to think about something else”, explained Walter Tanni Mandelli the veteran of Triad Vibration, a group also formed by Gennaro Scarpato (drums), Elio Salfa (bass), and Francesco Curatella (guitar).
Their prerformance in the prison was different from the two concerts the group gave in the this year’s Showcase and the African Village, but only because of the scene, because the audience’s reaction was the same in the three shows.
“At the beginning they were a Little closed, almost expectant– the explain in reference to the 200 inmates who filled the prison assembly hall- but after the first song, they reacted, it was putting a spark to tinder, from there, each guitar solo, each song, every gesture by us, was a pretext to demonstrate their emotions and enjoy the concert”.
“We brought them on a trip”.
