The rhythms of Africa will once again sound with force this year in the festival venue- Every night, from 22.00 until the following morning, the African Village will host live acts by different groups and DJ sets.
As far as guest bands go we have the pleasure of announcing the presence of Afrikemet, a new African music project made up by artists of different origins that comes from Barcelona to share popular traditional African music, reinterpreted in more modern styles.
Also coming from Barcelona are Moya Kalongo, a group that combines musicians from Mozambique, Ivory Coast, Uruguay and Catalonia, and I known for the social content of their lyrics in which they address issues such as the mines in South Africa, AIDs and the breakup of families. Apart from pioneering afrofunk, they have collaborated with artists the likes of Manu Chao, Jorge Drexler, la Mala Rodríguez, La Troba Kung Fú, Els Comediants and the Barcelona Jazz Orchestra, and many more.
Fanta Cissokho et les Griots du Temps is another of the groups that will be performing in the African Village. Daughter of a Guinean Diva of the mandinga sounds and of master in Senegalese Kora, Fanta Cissokho brings us the contemporary form of the art of griots and African story tellers so as to share this rich cultural formula that blends the knowledge of tradition with the art of improvisation.
After the concerts, from 02.00, there will be DJ sets with different DJs. Apart from DL Bumba, the resident DJ of the African Village, who will be accompanied by DJ Faty, we will have the chance to enjoy the set by Wiriko Sound, inspired by the most urban sounds of Africa both traditional and contemporary, as well as DJ Baba Sy, who is currently a resident in the Razzmatazz in Barcelona.
